Saloon#10 took place at the Kunstraum Niederösterreich, where we joined forces with KunstraumKabinet, their very own networking meetings. The KunstraumKabinet was established in 2017 by Käthe Hager von Strobele and Elisabeth Makovec as a form of exchange between women in the arts. It started as a group of mainly mothers with young children, for whom networking is especially difficult and developed into an open space for every woman working professionally in the arts field interested in an informal networking space. Hence, it was a pleasure for us to meet mothers and their kids at this Saloon and to discuss what special needs they have in order to stay connected with the scene.
Additionally, we had a very informative tour through Martha Wilson's solo presentation at the Kunstraum. Needless to say, it was very inspiring to find out about this feminist pioneer and her force to create despite the dire circumstances in the 70s and 80s. Special focus was also placed on Franklin Furnace, the archive and performance space Martha Wilson established in New York and which is active until today. As always, the conversation shifted to today's situation of women in the art world and how we can collaborate effectively in order to keep the engines going. Working together is an answer that we as Saloon members cherish and exercise and we are looking forward to see the fruits of our monthly meetings growing.
