Katharina Maria Grabner is a multimedia and interdisciplinary artist. She works with drawing, sound, language, light and movement in performances and installations. Grabner creates her drawings with light or parts of plants, as well as in interaction with movement or sound. She prefers to show them in performances and installation settings in which she combines different media and thus expands the two-dimensional. In installations and performances, Grabner also creates utopian spaces that encourage people to pause and reflect. Like when the artist had herself sworn in as Austria's first female federal president.
Grabner's works have been shown at, among others: Imagetanz Festival (brut Vienna), vorbrenner Festival (Innsbruck), raw matters, Künstler*haus Vienna, T/abor Vienna, ElektroGönner Artspace, VBKÖ, Volkskundemuseum Vienna.
In 2023 Grabner was an artist in residence at ROOMING INN. She has also acted in several films and is currently writing a screenplay.
Katharina Maria Grabner has graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and further studied at the University of Vienna and the Free University of Berlin and attended the Free Academy Testrup Højskole. She currently lives and works in Vienna.
