Catherine Ludwig was born in Bavaria and has been living and working as a freelance artist in Vienna, Linz and Munich for 18 years. She is a transmedia artist, which means that she transcends traditional barriers between the individual analog and digital media, both in the process of her work and in the result. After completing a degree in graphic design in Nuremberg, Catherine Ludwig studied transmedia art at the University of Applied Arts under Prof. Kowanz and was awarded the Kunsthalle Wien prize for her diploma thesis in 2006.
Since then she has been represented in numerous national and international exhibitions and in the Ursula Blickle Video Archive and has expanded her artistic spectrum in artist-in-residencies worldwide: Taiwan, Germany, Iceland, USA, Russia, Finland, Switzerland & Romania. In addition, Catherine Ludwig often works across disciplines with musicians (Judith Unterpertinger, Angelica Castello and others), architects (LaLeLu with Wolfgang Leeb, Margarita McGrath), theorists (Gernot Tscherteu, MAI Media Architecture Institute), as well as with students and pupils and is a member of the artists' collective 3plus (D, A, CH) & Hotel Infinity (FI, D, A, CH). Together with Maria Hanl, the artist curated the group exhibition “about space”, which was shown at the Kunstverein Oberösterreich and the Kunstverein Baden in 2019.
Catherine Ludwig is represented by Galerie Reinthaler in Vienna.
