marianne vlaschits
Marianne Vlaschits works primarily in the medium of painting and installation and tends to see her installations as expanded paintings. Currently she is most interested in astronomy, science-fiction, feminism, space exploration and the past and the future of humanity.
She was born 1983 in Vienna, where she lives and works most of her time. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and at the Slade School of Art in London. She has exhibited her work in various local and international institutions, galleries and independent spaces. Most recent exhibitions include „The Sword-Swallowing Toad“, Austrian Cultural Forum, Warsaw; „Fake It Till You Make It“, MeetFactory, Prague (group exhibition); „A New Home“, Galerie Nathalie Halgand, Vienna (2018), „Ethereal Island“ at Perspektiven Attersee, Attersee; „Queer Encounters – Vienna Trans L. A.“, (group exhibition), CALARTS, Los Angeles; „Promises of Monsters“, Kunstverein Hildesheim, Hildesheim, (2017); „Venus City“, Kevin Space, Vienna; „A disturbance traveling through a medium“, Duve Gallery Berlin, (2016); „Welcome to the Jungle“, KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin; „Panama“, One Work Gallery, Vienna (2015); „Pas de Deux“ (group exhibition), Cairo (2014); „Praxis der Liebe“ (group exhibition), Salzburger Kunstverein, Salzburg, 2013. Furthermore she has participated in shows at Galerie im Taxispalais, Innsbruck (2012), Open Source Gallery, New York (2012), Tegen 2, Stockholm (2011), Kunsthalle Wien (2010), STYX Projects in Berlin and London (2010-2011) and many other places. Her videos and performances have been shown internationally as well.
Marianne Vlaschits is recipient of the Ö1-Talentestipendium grant (2010), the START-Stipendium grant (2015) by the Federal Chancellery of Austria and the Emanuel and Sofie John (2014) grant among others. She was artist in residence at the Watermill Center in New York (2014), at the BMUKK Residency in Mexico City (2012) and at Hotel Amazonas in South Tyrol/Italy (2017).
