ONA B. in Wien geboren, arbeitet international auf dem Gebiet transmedialer Kunst. 1987 gründet ONA B. gemeinsam mit Evelyne Egerer, Birgit Jürgenssen (1949–2003) und Ingeborg Strobl (1949-2017) die Gruppe DIE DAMEN und zählt damit zur feministischen Avantgarde. Ab 2003 war auch Lawrence Weiner (1946-2021) aus New York Mitglied. Ein Markenzeichen ist federleichter,
hintergründiger Humor. Seit den 1980er Jahren bearbeitet ONA B. solo und auch kollaborativ poetische und gesellschaftsreflektive Inhalte, agiert oft prozessorientiert, inszeniert Performances, parodistische Events, Foto- und Videoserien und hat mit der Gruppe DIE DAMEN das Genre des Tableau Vivant ins Medienzeitalter übersetzt. Ihre Live-Interpretationen vom Rollenspiel der
Geschlechter, die Kommentare zum Status der Frau im Kunstbetrieb und in der Gesellschaft sind pointiert, kritisch, humorvoll und voll Selbstironie. In ihren Soloarbeiten zeigt sie auch mythologische und poetische Aspekte dramatischer Weltentwicklungen, die sie kritisch und voller Ambivalenz auch
fasziniert betrachtet. Ihre Teilnahmen an Biennalen: Venedig, Sinop, Kairo, Ankara, Valencia und Peking. ONA B. ist auch Autorin und Kuratorin und betreibt in Wien den Experimentalraum für Kunst und Wissenschaft “ON – Space”.
ONA B. born in Vienna, works internationally in the field of transmedial art. In 1987, ONA B. founded the group DIE DAMEN together with Evelyne Egerer, Birgit Jürgenssen (1949-2003) and Ingeborg Strobl (1949-2017) and thus became part of the feminist avant-garde. From 2003 Lawrence Weiner
(1946-2021) from New York was also a member. A trademark is feather-light, subtle humor. ONA B. has been working solo and collaboratively on poetic and socially reflective content since the 1980s, often acting in a process-oriented manner, staging performances, parodic events, photo and video
series and with the group DIE DAMEN has translated the genre of the tableau vivant into the media age. Her live interpretations of gender role plays, the comments on the position of women in the art world and in society, are pointed, critical, humorous and full of self-mockery. In her solo works, too,
she shows mythological and poetic aspects of dramatic world developments, which she encounters critically and full of ambivalence, and also with fascination. Her participation in biennials: Venice, Sinop, Cairo, Ankara, Valencia and Beijing. ONA B. is also an author and curator and runs the
experimental space for art and science "ON - Space" in Vienna.
