She is dealing with questions of space, city and architecture in her work. The starting point is the experience and perception of specific places and urban constellations.
With her feminist spatial practice, Petra Gell brings to the public strategies for action on topics that are usually negotiated in private. In her site-specific and expansive installations, two- and three-dimensional paintings, she takes up the individual and locates him or her in the context of society as a whole.
She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, Painting and Graphics (Gunter Damisch, degree 2006), Visual Education (Markus Prachensky, degree 2003) and Textil Design (Josef Schulz, degree 2003) and at the Universita di Roma Sapienza.
2023 she founded the artist blog ‚MATCHPOINT‘ where artist are writing about their lives, processes and works and 2019 the format ‚ARTIST:COACH‘ with Nadine Lemke. Since 2022 she is a member of the Salzburger Kunstverein, since 2019 member of the artist association MAERZ Linz and since 2014 member of the Künstlerhaus Vienna.
