Katja Stecher is based in Vienna, where she works as curator and art mediator, at the interface between these two practices. The focus of her curatorial work is centered around the structural conditions of the art field, outlined in her critical analysis of the established format of open calls as well as in the AWAY Laboratory, a discursive program reflecting on art residencies in order to generate knowledge for their future development. As writer and editor, she has been involved in several publications and has authored various texts for artists, exhibitions and catalogues. From 2025 to 2023 she was program manager of studio das weisse haus. Currently, she works in the art mediation department of Belvedere 21 and as artistic director of Kunstverein Baden.
