THE SALOON IS A DIVERSE NETWORK
OF WOMAN IDENTIFYING ART PROFESSIONALS
ACTIVE THROUGH LOCAL GROUPS
IN A GROWING NUMBER OF CITIES WORLDWIDE
The SALOON Network fosters a community within the art world that exchanges ideas, experiences and expertise and encourages the creation of collaborations and projects. Our members are curators, artists, journalists, gallerists and other professionals in the arts. Our activities include monthly meetings between the members as well as public events, ranging from studio or exhibition visits, portfolio reviews, exhibitions, or panel discussions. We actively collaborate with other communities to foster inclusion, exchange, understanding and trust between diverse networks of art professionals and aim at creating more visibility and equal opportunities for active woman (including cis, trans women as well as non-binary people) in their local art scene. We acknowledge how much work towards an intersectional, equal and anti-racist art world still needs to be done. Therefore, the SALOON Network is dedicated to dismantling boundaries for every woman and becoming a network that truly represents society.
The SALOON Network is the conglomerate of the SALOONS in Berlin, Paris, Brussels, Hamburg, Dresden, London, Barcelona,
Tel Aviv, Prague, and Vienna. As an international network for women in the arts, we have branches in different cities and we constantly growing. The exchange between members of each city is a very important part of the network and we are encouraging our members to get in touch with the SALOON board members when traveling.
Additionally, we regularly connect members of each SALOON city by organizing international exchange programs, members’ exhibitions or online SALOON meetings. The headquarters is located in Berlin, Germany, where independent curator Tina Sauerlaender founded the first SALOON in 2012. You can watch the speech about her vision for the SALOON here. Please contact us if you want to join the network or suggest a collaboration.
In 2018, the board members of Berlin, Paris, and Vienna initiated the first SALOON EXCHANGE WEEK, where members of each city swapped their places and stayed in their guest city for a week. The host cities organized an extensive program during that week, including museum and gallery visits, members networking events, public talks, fair visits, portfolio reviews, and many talks during dinners and drinks. Below you can find a round-up of last year's EXCHANGE WEEK.
